 Air Force
The United States Air Force does not
have an official motto, but there are numerous unofficial slogans such as
"Nothing Comes Close" and
Uno Ab Alto. For
many years, the U.S. Air Force used "Aim High" as its recruiting motto; more
recently, they have used "Cross Into the Blue", "We've been waiting for you"
and "Do Something Amazing", and the newest one, "Above All".
Each wing, group, or squadron usually has its own motto(s).
Information and logos can usually be found on the wing, group, or squadron
websites. |

 Army
The United States Army is the largest, and by
some standards, the oldest established branch of the armed forces of the
United States and is one of seven uniformed services. Like all armies, it
has the primary responsibility for land-based military operations.
The modern Army had its roots in
the Continental Army which was formed on June 14, 1775, before the
establishment of the United States, to meet the demands of the American
Revolutionary War. |
 Marines
The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is a
branch of the United States armed forces responsible for providing force
projection from the sea, using the mobility of the U.S. Navy to rapidly
deliver combined-arms task forces and is one of seven uniformed services.
Administratively within the Department of the Navy, operationally the U.S.
Marine Corps acts as a separate branch of the military, often working
closely with US Naval forces for training, transportation, and logistic
purposes. |
 Muskets
A musket is a muzzle-loaded, smoothbore
long gun, which is intended to be fired from the shoulder. The date of
origin of muskets remains unknown, but they are mentioned in Chinese
military books such as Huo Long Jing as early as the late 14th century.
Muskets were primarily designed for use by infantry. Improved with the
introduction of rifling around 1800, muzzle loading rifled muskets (of
the kind common during the Crimean War) became obsolete by the late 19th
century, as cartridge breech loading repeaters superseded them. | |
 Navy
The United States Navy (USN) is the
branch of the United States armed forces responsible for conducting
naval operations and is one of seven uniformed services. The U.S. Navy
currently has over 335,000 personnel on active duty and 128,000 in the
Navy Reserve. It operates 280 ships in active service and more than
3,700 aircraft. The actual colors of the U.S. Navy are the Blue and
Gold. The United States Navy traces its origins to the Continental Navy,
which was established during the American Revolutionary War and was
disbanded shortly thereafter. |
 Sergeant Stripes
Sergeant is a rank used in some form by
most militaries, police forces, and other uniformed organizations around
the world. Its origins are the Latin serviens, "one who serves", through
the French term Sergent. In most non-naval military or paramilitary
organizations, a Sergeant is a non-commissioned officer (NCO) ranking
above Privates and Corporals, and below Warrant Officers and
Commissioned Officers.
There are usually several ranks of Sergeant, each corresponding to
greater experience and responsibility for the daily lives of the
soldiers of larger units. |

Sword
A sword fundamentally consists of a
blade, a hilt, and a pommel, typically with one or two edges for
striking and cutting, and a point for thrusting. The basic intent and
physics of swordsmanship has remained fairly constant down the
centuries, but the actual techniques varied among cultures and periods
as a result of the differences in blade design and purpose. The names
given to many swords in mythology, literature, and history reflect the
high prestige of the weapon. |
